Sushi is brilliant at the best of times, whack on a beachside location and you’ve got yourself a banging summer combo. And Glenelg-goers are in luck, there’s a new sushi train on the block by the name of Ebisu Sushi.
Ebisu initially opened its doors three years ago up in Mawson Lakes, and they’ve just made the grand decision to expand their horizons a little further south, plonking themselves along the bustling Glenelg strip that we all know and love, Jetty Road.
The sushi shop offers a fresh new look, as well as fresh fare of course; seating 45 bums while letting in a plethora of natural seaside lighting with an industrial fit-out, keeping things aesthetic, calm and collected.
The menu may take you by surprise too, with a fusion selection as well as the ol’ sushi faithfuls up for grabs. From a range of sushi tacos to hot pots and ramen to rolls, the menu more specifically enlists cuisine with the likes of: aburi scallop cream cheese nigiri, okonomiyaki, jelly fish gunkan, kingfish carpaccio, crumbed fried oyster, chicken yakitori, corn dogs, and chawanmushi.
While some mighty fine vegetarian options include: burdock root chips, tempura curry rice, gyozas, tempura curry udon, tteogkkochi rice cake skewers, sweet potato roll, shiitake mushroom inari, green bean tempura nigiri, and pumpkin tempura nigiri – to name a few.
As for dessert, get a load of: the dorayaki Japanese red bean jam pancake, tiramisu mochi, matcha ice cake, and the chocolate spring roll – plus plenty more which are all orderable though the spiffy iPad system or by the old school method.
Ebisu Sushi owner, Kimmy was previously at the helm of a sushi restaurant in Canada and has been in the biz for quite some time; having ventured to Melbourne and Sydney to suss out the market for the finer things in the world of sushi. It’s safe to say that the palates of Adelaide are in good hands.
