Yes, there are plenty of vegan restaurants and cafes in Adelaide as we speak; and sure, most other establishments offer pretty cracking vegan options these days too.
But none quite equated to that of Allegra Dining Room – an intimate restaurant that existed 16 long months ago solely offering plant-based fine dining with a focus on seasonality and regionality. And blessed be, the elite eatery is set to welcome diners once again.
The 16-month closure came about after Allegra Dining Room owners grew from a family of two to three. And they took to social media to announce their comeback, stating –
“After a 16-month hiatus, we are excited to welcome you back to Allegra Dining Room. We are tremendously pleased to announce that from 29 January 2023 we will be serving our full course dinner, and experience offering a compilation of dishes that best represent the season.
“New Head Chef, Miles Davies will bring his unique signature to the menu: big flavours, lots of texture, balanced and clean deliciousness always at the forefront.
“A heartfelt thank you for your continued support. My team look forward to extending a warm welcome to you in 2023.”
Now, when we say elite, we mean elite. Not only does Allegra take pride in their use of local and seasonal produce, but innovation is front and centre along with creative attention to detail. Combined with impeccable and gentle service.
In previous years, Allegra Dining Room served a set, revolving ten-or-so courses menu which saw modifications on a weekly basis, and sometimes daily depending on produce availability – utilising what’s good and what’s fresh only.
Their fare truly is exquisite, plating unconventional flavour combinations which often aren’t believed ’til they’re sampled. Take their incomparable Jerusalem artichoke with coffee, preserved lemon and truffle for example. Take a glimpse at these precursory Allegra Dining Room wonders.
As for the dining room itself, Allegra sits atop Etica pizzeria on Gilles Street in the CBD’s south. The space seats a cozy 28 people with dimmed, warm lighting illuminating the beige decor and moderns works of art.
Unusual vases and lamps scatter the room while retro, wooden paneling pasty the ceiling with the odd red and blue light peeping through here and there.
Dinner with Allegra Dining Room is served from Thursdays through to Sundays, with bookings essential. If you’re up for a culinary adventure for your taste buds, Allegra is the dining room with the most.
