Set in a kingdom far away, five ballet dancers bathed in sparkling light-embued costumes will twist and glide to Tchaikovsky’s tender melodies. The performance is set to take place at Scott Theatre inside The University of Adelaide on selected dates over the coming months. What is “Ballet of Lights”?
Ballet of Lights is a 60-minute show that celebrates ballet in all its glory, while also adding a couple of unexpected elements to make the experience heightened and more accessible. The lights that are incorporated into the dancers’ costumes create an ethereal effect that not only help with the storytelling, but also make the story of The Sleeping Beauty feel fresh.

The Sleeping Beauty ballet is a classic for a reason: it tells a timeless story through dance, featuring universal themes of love, good versus evil, and redemption. Created by two widely celebrated artists, namely composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreographer Marius Petipa, it perfectly captures the emotional depth of the characters, while embodying the fairy tale nature of the genre.
