Each year, people from all walks of life gather in Adelaide for the annual Feast Festival, a dazzling event that brings together LGBTQIA+ artists and community members to express and celebrate all things Pride. This year, the festival is returning for its 25th anniversary from 5 to 27 November, and it’s set to be as fierce as ever.
Although the full program isn’t ready to be released yet (presumably as it’s too hot to handle), there’s a brand spankin’ new cabaret production which is locked in for November 11 and 12, Madonna Made Me Gay!
Local Adelaide performer, Aaron Collis will be taking centre stage for the one-hour show which tells the hilarious and heart-warming story of Madonna’s key role in one man’s journey of self-discovery.
It’s packed full of hits and features a fabulous live band pumping out the tunes with the likes of Open Your Heart to Lucky Star, Into the Groove, Live to Tell, Ray of Light, Promise To Try, True Blue, Express Yourself, Cherish, Like a Prayer, I’ll Remember, Holiday and plenty more bangers from Madonna’s musical cache.
You might recognise Aaron from his previous show, namely his hit Adelaide Fringe cabaret show Two Brunettes And A Gay…, and recent performance in ABBA: Orchestrated. And now you’ll be able to delve into Aaron’s life journey and witness the impacts of what Madonna and music can have on one’s being.
“The show is really about how Madonna helped me come to terms with my own identity and find my own strengths and give me the confidence to be myself. Her music inspired me lyrically and her attitude toward life inspires me every single day,” Aaron says.
“The songs all have a very special place in my heart and I’m very excited to finally get the chance to perform them which has always been a dream of mine.
“I can tell my stories, sing my songs and perform these amazing, iconic pieces of music that means so much to me and also so many people.
“I found a good blend of pizazz with the costumes but also pulling it back a little and enjoying the opportunity to just connect with the crowd and sing and tell my stories as well,” Aaron finishes said.
Aaron hopes to eventually tour Madonna Made Me Gay! around Australia, and possibly even internationally. It’s going to be a blast!
