There sure ain’t a shortage of food offerings when it comes to the suburb of Unley, with cuisines spanning from around the globe – Greek, Spanish, Vietnamese, Latin American, you name it. But the latest eatery joining the scene are bringing something completely new; we’ll get to that, but first, welcome Mumpling Dumpling & Boba.
Located inside the Unely Shopping Centre, Mumpling Dumpling is your new takeaway joint that gleams with blue neon signage against their red colour scheme – you can’t miss it. The eatery specialises in dumplings and bubble tea, but with a twist.
On the menu you’ll find a selection of the familiar juicy morsels that we all know and love with the likes of: pork and chive, prawn and cabbage, and vegetable dumps. But you’ll also come across Mumpling’s cheeseburger dumplings, in a potential Adelaide-first.
That’s right, cheeseburger dumplings – stuffed with the usual offenders found in a classic cheeseburger, served over hot chips, and drizzled with Sriracha mayo, with a sprinkling of spring onions and sesame seeds – a dumpling snack pack or AB, if you will.
Don’t know about you, but that sounds mighty fine in our books. But if that’s a little too elaborate for your liking, a plain old container full of dumplings are definitely an acceptable and do-able ask. You’d be wise to keep an eye on their specials board too; their laksa dumpling soup is making an appearance this week, and boy does it look luscious.
In terms of bubble tea, you’ll be greeted with a list of the classics as well as a few out of the ordinary beverages. Sip on a chocolatey Nutella bubble tea, or perhaps a cookie dough-lovers Biscoff dream. And if you’re feeling daring, there’s even a Vegemite tea served with fresh milk, boba pearls, whipped cream, chocolate, and cereal.
Mumpling Dumpling & Boba owner, Chi learnt how to make dumplings from a young age – absorbing the techniques and skills that his mother taught him; a love that now translates into the language of dumplings. The name Mumpling even pays homage to Chi’s mother by combining the words ‘mum’ and ‘dumpling’.
All of Mumpling’s food offerings are made in-house, from scratch, and by hand, including their very own chilli oil. While Mumpling Dumpling isn’t a restaurant, they do offer just a few seats to plant your tooshie; alternatively, take your selection away and scoff them up in one of Unley’s many peaceful parks.
Mumpling Dumpling & Boba are open seven days a week, and are located right across from the shopping centre’s Woolies, dangerously convenient after a grocery run. Fried, steamed or boiled, you can’t go wrong.
