It’s the most wonderful time of the year, some may say. There’s festive cheer and work Chrissy parties all around, with people stressin’ all over the place – it’s quite the combo. But if all things Santa float your boat, then you’re going to love the return of Rundle Mall’s iconic Christmas windows.
The festive window displays have officially been lit, enlivening Adelaide’s biggest retail strip by miles, bringing both an intriguing and exciting Christmas experience to the mall – who doesn’t love gazing upon something brilliant and shiny? Other than the Mall’s Balls, of course.
This year, a cheeky new character can be found in all eight of the Christmas windows along the 520 metre length of Rundle Mall. Keep an eye out for Merry the Mouse on your adventure – scan each window and find Merry doing all sorts of things – from perching atop a reindeer to helping put up tinsel.
The one and only Christmas Pageant window, featuring the much-loved rocking horse Nimble has also made a return this year to help celebrate the Pageant’s 90-year anniversary while the other seven showcase brand new displays.
As well as the windows, a new activation will debut this year – Christmas Cracker. The activity pays tribute to the festive tradition of gathering around the table with loved ones, and participants can go in the running to win one of 1,000 crackers containing all sorts of delightful surprises in the lead up to Christmas.
To be involved, just head to your app store and search ‘Adelaide Christmas Trail’ and go on your merry way, scanning to QR codes on the numbered Christmas Craker boxes around the city. By doing so, you’ll go in the draw to win a family city staycation valued at $1,500.
Adelaide Economic Development Agency Executive Manager for Rundle Mall, Andrew White says, “This year’s display has a real focus on families and spending time with loved ones, and includes a series of activities, including finding Merry the Mall Mouse in each window to complete a puzzle and enter a weekly draw to win a $50 Toyworld voucher.
“Parents can and kids’ activity sheets in participating retailers or visit rundlemall.com to download activities from colouring in an Aussie Christmas scene, a guide to making your own Christmas crackers at home and printing Christmas wrapping paper,” Andrew shares.
Rundle Mall’s Christmas windows are on display now until early January, and they’re free for all to enjoy, so go ogle some sparkling boxes while you can.
