In the cultures of Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, Schützenfests are held as a traditional festival that centres around a target shooting competition – amongst other alpine-esque things.
Lucky for us, there’s one coming to Ellis Park/Tambawodli this month – jam-packed with steins and entertainment aplenty. So if you don’t want to wait a whole year after Oktoberfest to party like you’re in Germany, then you mustn’t miss the 57th annual Schützenfest.
While target shooting doesn’t sound family-friendly in the slightest, Schützenfest in the Adelaide Parklands will modify the competition making it a bit more PG, supervised by the licensed German Club Shooting group. You can take your accuracy skills to the test by becoming a contestant. Or if you’d just like to watch, then that’s totally fine too.
Over the weekend, you can expect plenty of German eats, and beer on tap of course. Did someone say giant pretzel paired with an iced cold stein? Yes please!
And the vibes will remains super high over the day thanks to live music by Adelaide Accordion Orchestra, Bund der Bayern, Heidi & Hermann Duet, and DJ Herbert Stauber, Adelaide German Band, and the Feierabend Euroband.
There will also be games and attractions to keep the little ones occupied, all in an outdoor setting.
Schützenfest will be all the go on Friday 24 from 5pm and Saturday 25 February 2023 from 2pm. Make sure you check out the full program here so you don’t miss out on your festival highlights!
