Whether you’re a bookworm, Harry Potter fan, or a purveyor of fine tipple – you’re going to like what the State Library of South Australia has in store for the library’s Mortlock Chamber.
Between Monday 3 and Sunday 23 July, the olde worlde section of the library will be transformed into a pop-up, craft gin bar and entertainment hub in a first of its kind.
Storytellers Distillery of Thebarton is set to take over the antiquated space which is reminiscent of a secret Hogwartz escape.
Sip on a curated selection of award-winning gins from the Storytellers range which sees local botanicals utilised to create the finest of flavour combinations.
As you tantalise your taste buds, you can also browse an archival display of gin related material from the State Library’s expansive collection, if you so please.
The State Library of South Australia Director, Geoff Strempel, says, “As the custodian of stories, the State Library couldn’t think of a better fit than partnering with Storytellers Distillery, whose brand is based around storytelling.”
While Storytellers Distillery Head Distiller, Lachlan Gunner, shares, “Our mission has always been to craft spirits that unfold stories with each sip, and this partnership with the State Library feels like a natural fit.
“We can’t contain our excitement as we prepare to transform the Mortlock Chamber and enjoy this iconic space like never before.”
In addition to the sublime gin, the collaboration will also see a slew of live music and ticketed entertainment including Substance, Adelaide Fringe award-winning TattleTales, an immersive and interactive tarot storytelling experience, and a night of silent revelry at Please be Quiet: Silent Disco.
And as fate would have it, the pop-up bar will coincide with Illuminate Adelaide, and nearby Resonate in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens – offering the perfect pitstop away from the hustle and bustle of North Terrace.
Entry into Storytellers Distillery at The Mortlock is free and runs nightly from 5pm until 11pm between Monday 3 and Sunday 23 July.
