It’s official – after plenty of debate Australia’s most southern (and often forgotten) state of Tasmania have secured a team in the Australian Football League (AFL).
The decision comes after all 18 existing clubs agreed to grant the Devil’s Land Down Under entry as the 19th team.
Additionally, the announcement ensued the Federal Government’s unveiling of a $240 million stadium for the state’s capital in Hobart on Saturday.
“It’s not an Australian Football League if is leaves off the south island, and that’s what has occurred for too long,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese shared.
The uneven number of teams will mean that one of the 19 teams must have a bye and sit out each round.
Tasmania’s entry into the AFL competition is expected to be in either 2027 or 2028. But for now, what do you reckon the brand new team should be named?
