Public service announcement: Parwana Afghan Kitchen of Torrensville is swinging their restaurant doors open for lunch sessions as of this week.
The progression comes after Delicious 100’s recent hospitality awards of 2022, with readers voting Parwana as the top restaurant in South Australia. It’s no wonder the cult-favourite made it to our best restaurants in Adelaide guide, as voted by our readers. Apparently they reckon Parwana serve up some of the best dumplings in Adelaide too.
From Thursdays through to Sundays between 11am and 2pm, Parwana invites diners into their family-run restaurant to feast upon their traditional fare which has been gracing the dining room for 13 years strong, and to experience two new offerings to satisfy your salivation.
The new additions include pan-fried, stuffed flat breads with seasonal vegetables or meat with herb chutney – known as bolani. And Afghan pasta, topped with a rich tomato and split-pea sauce, and further loaded with a tangy yoghurt and dried herbs – a sight which isn’t poles apart from an Italian pasta dish.
The two new meals will serve to intrigue, or simply bring familiarity and comfort to those who have been on the hunt for these specific dishes which seem an uncommon staple in the Adelaide food scene.
Old faithfuls will still be making an appearance on the lunchtime menu however, like: voluptuous rice dishes of caramelised carrots, sultanas, slivered almonds and pistachios, and swoon-worthy curries with diced lamb in a rich tomato and onion sauce. The herbaceous Afghan desserts are also to die for. And plenty of vegan options are spread across the page.
Durkhanai Ayubi, who runs the restaurant with her parents Zelmai and Farida Ayubi, collectively state, “In Afghanistan, meals are a ritual combining family, friends and culture. Our meals are best enjoyed shared, reflecting the spirit of copiousness and generosity.”
Much like dinner service, BYO is just fine during the daylight hours too – with the corkage fee donated to a homelessness charity.
