Although Australia’s a lot more known for its summers, we also love the cold Down Under. We love the snow too. It’s just that there isn’t a whole lot of it around the country and our cities only get that winter wonderland feeling with a rare coating in Hahndorf. Well, that could very well change now that Winter Sports World has proposed a spectacular new indoor snow resort for Sydney to fulfill all of our snow cravings.
If approved by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, the resort will be built in the heart of Penrith. A sprawling 300-meter indoor ski slope along with a mammoth Olympic-sized ice rink is in the offering. Adventure sports enthusiasts could look forward to a dedicated space for ice hockey, speed skating, alpine skiing and ice climbing.
If you prefer to slow down and escape the humdrum of city life, there are heaps of cool features in the proposal. Right from a revolving restaurant with stunning snow views all around to the best of fine dining at your disposal.
Winter Sports World is hoped to boost the local tourism industry by generating around 900 ongoing tourism jobs and could also contribute up to $80 million to the NSW economy annually.
It would also provide the relevant training ground for nine Olympic sports including alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboard, figure skating, ice hockey and speed skating.
Site owner and developer Peter Magnisalis is currently in the application process with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.
