It includes an Olympic-sized ice rink and some amazing après-ski options.
Although Australia’s a lot more known for its summers, we also love the cold Down Under. We love the snow too. It’s just that there isn’t a whole lot of it around the country and our cities only get that winter wonderland feeling when Winter Village pops up. Well, not for much longer since Winter Sports World and the NSW Planning Department have now gone two steps ahead to announce a spectacular new indoor snow resort in Sydney to fulfill all of our snow cravings.
Set to be built in the heart of Penrith, the $300 million indoor Winter Sports World has officially received Penrith Council’s endorsement and it is primed to be the stuff of dreams. A sprawling 300-meter indoor ski slope along with a mammoth Olympic-sized ice rink are in the offing. Adventure sports enthusiasts can look forward to a dedicated space for ice hockey, speed skating, alpine skiing and ice climbing.
If you prefer to slow down and escape the humdrum of city life, there are heaps of cool features on the horizon. Right from a revolving restaurant with stunning snow views all around to the best of fine dining at your disposal.
Tentatively set to open in 2024, Winter Sports World is expected to boost the local tourism industry by generating around 900 ongoing tourism jobs and could also contribute up to $80 million to the NSW economy annually.
Once the venue is up and running, it is also expected to provide the relevant training ground for nine Olympic sports including alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboard, figure skating, ice hockey and speed skating.
Site owner and developer Peter Magnisalis is gearing up to finalise plans for his ambitious proposal which has now been in development for close to seven years. Construction could begin next year with the resort expected to open by the winter of 2024.
