Having enjoyed months of standing ovations in the eastern states and universal acclaim, the Broadway musical, Come From Away will finally be make its way to Adelaide across March and April this year.
From Tuesday 28 March, the recently refurbished Her Majesty’s Theatre will be host to the worldwide hit, and Tony and Olivier award-winning performance which has left audiences awe-inspired with its account of generosity.
Based on the incredible real-life events in the wake of the September 11, Come From Away is a captivating musical about the unity and kindness in adversity displayed on the remote town of Gander in Newfoundland, Canada.
During the fateful day in 2001, 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 people from over 100 countries were redirected during the traumatic event, almost doubling the population of Gander. Come From Away captures the charity and hospitality of the small community who invited the ‘come from aways’ into their homes; it is an uplifting story of hope and humanity.
Award-winning writers, David Hein and Irene Sankoff travelled to Newfoundland and interviewed thousands of locals, turning their stories into a heartening musical to share with the world.
Producer Rodney Rigby, alongside Junkyard Dog Productions says, “Come From Away has been bringing audiences to their feet in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast since its opening in Australia in July 2019.
“Come From Away is Broadway’s 49th longest running musical in history and we’re delighted to bring this special production to Adelaide next year,” Rodney shares.
