That’s $225 x 8 because Camp Island is an island for you and seven mates.
Camp Island is an island in the Whitsundays, between Mackay and Townsville near Guthalungra in the Great Barrier Reef. It is 17.5 hectares in size, shaped like a comma that’s been flipped the wrong way and can be all yours for your stay because when you book, you’re booking the whole island and not just a room.
While the $1800 per night price tag can seem a bit steep, this is an island holiday and contrary to the name of the island, you’ll actually be sleeping in one of four villas with ensuites and with your own private verandah just metres from the ocean. The island sleeps eight so it makes sense to divvie it up between you and seven mates and think of Camp Island as your own slice of paradise for the time you’re there.
Each villa is connected to the main lodge where you will find the living area with TV and other creature comforts as well as the kitchen kitted out with all the appliances you need. There’s a bbq too if you want to get on the grill and cook up the catch of the day which can be mackerel, trevally or queenfish if they bite. In the mangroves, you can also find crabs to catch.
If you’re exploring the island, keep an eye out for a wallaby, echidna, sea eagles or Torres Strait pigeons. Then take out the kayak for a paddle as well as a swim and snorkel to get a closer glimpse of the spectacular coral gardens surrounding the island. Depending on the time of the year, watch out for whales, dolphins and turtles, too.
Watch sunsets and sunrises, relax in a hammock and end your day sitting by the firepit as the stars light up the nght sky above. The three-night minimum stay might end up feeling like too short of a time for your stay in this island paradise.
