It’s the iconic pub on the square in Adelaide city that we all came to know and love, Sparkke At The Whitmore – and now it’s time to farewell the top-tier drinking and eating house, as the leasehold has been acquired by an external entity, after sadly not recovering from the financial implications of Covid-19.
Effective Tuesday 4 October 2022, Mighty Craft Limited subsidiary, Mismatch Brewing Company will take over the leasehold of Sparkke At The Whitmore, entering into a new lease for seven years.
Sparkke At The Whitmore co-founders, Rose Kentish and Kari Allen say, “None of us could have foreseen that the impacts of 2020 would continue to challenge Adelaide’s CBD hospitality industry so far into 2022 with little relief in sight.
“So, in keeping with our commitment to our pub staff and you, our community, we have made the difficult decision to put our beautiful venue into the hands of a significantly more resourced operator better positioned to weather ongoing trading challenges,” Rose and Kari share.
With grasp from the existing strength of the Mismatch brand, Mighty Craft believe that they can return the venue to pre‐Covid levels. The Whitmore is also home to an operational brewery where Mismatch products are set to be brewed, as fitting with the successful venue model similar to that of Jetty Road and Slipstream.
Sparkke At The Whitmore first opened its doors on International Women’s Day in 2019 and has since provided Adelaide with quality booze and fare.
Rose and Kari say, “We worked hard with an amazing team of talented creatives to bring to life a venue that was visually stunning, welcoming and inclusive.
“We celebrated makers from the outset; brewers, chefs, mixologists, distillers, hospitality professionals, artists and performers and established ourselves as an authentic community meeting space.
“But we’re not really gone. We’re still brewing and distilling premium, delicious beverages and we’ll continue to be in bars, restaurants, bottleshops and pop ups around Australia.
And on Saturday 1 October, Sparkke At The Whitemore will host a Thank You Adelaide party – keep an eye out for details which will be shared on their socials. There’ll be live music, food, tattoos, a barber, a cocktail extravaganza, a dog friendly outdoor seating area, and more.
“Adelaide – you welcomed us into your busy lives; you showed up for us, helping us to create an incredibly successful, highly awarded brew pub that gained local acclaim and national attention. You made OUR home, your home.
“We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to serve you,” Rose and Kari finish.
