Light Square to the inner-city’s west is turning into the talk of the town. And although happenings around the locale have historically been on the lowkey side of things, that’s all about to change with the opening of The Light Room – an innovative new hospitality offering by Light ADL.
The new venue sits on the second floor of the Light ADL conglomerate, right above award-winning restaurant and sister space, Aurora. Spread across three large and connecting expanses, The Light Room is far more than a place for just drinks and snacks.
Pegged to be the ‘art and soul’ of Adelaide, the bar’s point of difference is an immersive gallery and studio space. Drinks can be sipped amongst local artists’ works on chesterfield couches, plus the opportunity to create your own digital art with the current exhibition, LIMINAL.
150sqm of LED screens encapsulates yet another room for LIMINAL, complete with French bistro chairs front and centre. LIMINAL is an aesthetic and thematic exploration of the space that exists between everything, as perceived by local artists Daniel Wells-Smith, Oliver White, Stephanie Luchnikova, and Allen Macintosh.
While The Light Room’s gallery is currently hosting works by photographer Chris Herzfeld, with his Stillness of Motion exhibition conveying his love for dance. The evolving artist program is exclusive to The Light Room, as well as a line-up of local musical talent and DJs on Friday and Saturday nights.
It’s an experience like no other in South Australia, and it can all be done with a drink in hand and a tasty morsel in the other – with libations drawing on sustainability and supportive work practices. featuring local and imported labels.
The Light Room’s signature cocktail works with local producer, Seven Seasons Spirits’ Bush Apple Gin to create a unique variation on the classic Gin Sour, blush in colour. While other local suppliers found on the list include Lost Phoenix Spirits, Mischief Brewing, Mordrelle, Murdoch Hill, and Vella.
Light ADL CEO, Nic Mercer says, “We have an extensive list of favourites, but encourage guests to customise their drinks to their liking, enhancing to the premium experience.”
As for the cheeky snacks, Aurora Head Chef, Sam Cooper has developed a bar menu to accentuate South Australian suppliers. And much like the cocktail list, the menu is slightly unorthodox with the likes of caviar served on okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) to highlight its oceanic aromas.
And in another opportunity to get creative, an option exists to ‘build your own’ cheese and charcuterie platters, with a generous selection of local and international smallgoods to choose from.
Light ADL co-founder, Nick Dunstone says, “Come for a drink and stay for an experience. The Light Room is a space to unwind and relax overlooking Light Square. The hospitality offering is exceptional and designed to champion the very best of local hospitality.”
The Light Room is now open and awaiting curious drinkers, diners, and quirk enthusiasts from 4:30pm until late on Wednesdays through to Saturdays – get inspired.
