Each year come July 14, Bastille Day celebrations are in full swing around the world – whether that be by way of hectic French street parties or perhaps meticulous and intimate cheese tastings. It’s commonly referred to as France’s national day and it’s one worth celebrating – but we’ll let you do the history reading in your own time. Without further delay, here are the top five happenings for Bastille Day in Adelaide for 2022.
1. Aurora’s Bastille Day Dinner
On Thursday 14 July, Aurora Restaurant in the CBD will be offering a five course tasting menu to celebrate the glorious day and pay homage to a number of their favourite French chefs and their creations. Each dish will showcase signature French cuisines from different eras and different regions, using different techniques inspired by icons; Damien Pignolet, Michel Troisgros, Pierre Koffmann and Cyriaque Gavillon. Now that’s a lot of different.
On the menu you’ll find dishes with the likes of; fresh bread with snail butter for starters, and a salmon and sorrel a little furthers way into the menu. 2. Bastille Day at the Adelaide Central Market
Spanning from Thursday 14 until Saturday 16 July, the Central Markets will be host to an array of activities and entertainment in honour of the big day. The highlights include; live music, a croquembouche cooking demonstration, gingerbread decorating for kids, roving entertainment, a crepe pop up stall and a champagne bar.
On top of all that, on Friday 15 you can join in on a walking tour of the Market which is bound to satisfy the sensors. You’ll discover authentic French cheeses, charcuterie and pâtisserie, all while sipping on a glass of French champagne. 3. Scoffed And Quaffed
On Thursday 14 July, Scoffed Cooking School in Magill will throw a Bastille celebration to remember. You’ll be learning to cook their Bastille Day specials with the likes of; prawn bisque, duck a l’orange or coq au vin, and Paris brest, under the guidance of their professional chefs. And not to worry, Scoffed will provide all the ingredients and equiptment necessary, as well as an apron to keep your outside stain-free!
While you feast, your creations will be matched with tastings from a range of French wines, notably; sauvignon blanc, merlot, pinot noir and chardonnay. It will be a relaxed and sociable, learning experience to say the least – secure your tickets here.
4. Bastille Day at the Capri Theatre
On Sunday 17 July, the Capri Theatre in Goodwood will transform into a French mecca – with drinks, music, and a special screening of a well-known, family-friendly French movie which is yet to be announced – how mysteriously French. After the screening, Parisian-inspired bar, Good Gilbert will be offering $13 glasses of Pol Roger Champagne – just across the road from the Capri! They’ll also be running a French-inspired food and drinks menu over the following weekend.
The kids are in for a treat too with a few fun activities that’ll be in action, and as for the adults, an enticing door prize will be up for grabs. Get your tickets here.
5. Bastille Day at The Stirling Hotel
Just a 20 minute drive up the freeway, you’ll find the picturesque Stirling Hotel – and on Thursday 14 July they’ll be hosting a very special four course dinner that have expertly matched with 12 hand selected wines from Burgundy, France. The intimate dining experience will be held in their grandiose, private room, the Stirling Hotel Library.
