Ever met anyone that doesn’t love a good pie? Neither. And golly gosh, us South Aussies are lucky when it comes to the pie greats, and now, the best meat pie in Australia.
Venture southward from Adelaide’s city centre and eventually you’ll find yourself in the hilly suburb of Belair, home to Banana Boogie Bakery and the holy grail of meat pies.
The multi-award-winning Adelaide Hills bakery swept the judges off their feet at the National Pie and Pasty Competition in Sydney this year.
Banana Boogie Bakery secured the top spot in the Plain Mince Pie Category, awarded by The Baking Association of Australia, as well as first place in the Apprentice Meat Pie Category, and a gold medal for Best Gourmet Pastie for their Butter Chicken offering.
The Belair bakery took to Instagram to share their winnings, stating, “We are absolutely over the moon to say we won three categories in this year’s national pie and pastie competition in Sydney.
“We have been trying to win the Plain Pie Category for a long time now and it feels amazing to finally have that trophy in our cabinet.
“We don’t enter these competitions to glorify ourselves, but to prove to our customers that every day we strive to make the absolute, most perfect products we possibly can.”
The humble bakery really knows their gluten well, having also won awards for their vanilla slices and hot-cross buns, which were named the best in Australia in March this year.
So, there you have it, the secret is out – Australia’s best meat pie is just a hop, skip, and a jump up the hill. But, if you’re into something a bit more herbivorous, and a little less meat-heavy, check out our guide to the best pubs in the Adelaide Hills with fantastic plant-based fare.
