After frequenting numerous markets here and there, the roving patisserie and tea stall Fresia & Cassia, has opened a brick and mortar location in the charming Adelaide Arcade, and somewhat rebranded themselves as Cielo.
Cielo is the brainchild of 23-year-old Chaveli Goya, a trained pasty chef who holds a passion for the finer things in life with a humble twist. Throughout Chaveli’s childhood, she recalls fond memories engaging delightful cups of tea with her Abuelita (grandma) and the warmth that is derived from both the tea and the bonding. It’s these moments that sparked the inspiration behind Chaveli’s business ventures, in the hope that you can enjoy the small and humbling moments as much as did, and does.
The old-world Adelaide Arcade location couldn’t be more suited to a high tea room. The bright space is clean-cut, where attention to detail is not overlooked. Cielo’s crisp white walls make for the perfect backdrop in order to let the divine cakes and pastries glow, while the gold gilded Victorian Era frames bring elegance to the room.
Chaveli’s special tea blends and homemade organic pastries are the star of the show, with a delectable range on offer including: croissants, Berliners, cakes and pain au chocolat – something of a Parisian dream. Take a look at Cielo’s sweets, just these few will have your lips quivering.
Keep a weathered eye for Cielo’s weekly specials too – these include savoury delights if you’re not much of a sweet-tooth, with likes of mortadella and pesto sandwiches. You can also find an adorable range of hand-moulded ceramic teawares which are shy from being ‘perfect’.
It’s with great thanks to Renew Adelaide that small businesses have been able to flaunt their goodies and share their talents with the rest of the city and beyond. Even more-so now, with the impacts of Covid, Renew Adelaide supports small business owners by offering flexible, rent-free spaces in the CBD by connecting property owners with business concepts. Without them the Adelaide Arcade would simply be patisserieless and your taste buds would not be blessed by Cielo’s creations.
